KDL LCD TV 40W5500 Review

Sony KDL 40W5500 Review by : “Rubly”

I got the KDL-40W5500 for two weeks at home and then have it returned again.

I can confirm that the HD picture is really super sharp and very good. The 100Hz technology, however, is such a thing. She works at the Sony really perfect, but the film somehow they look too sharp and they look as if you had just the scene with his own camcorder itself included. In the long run I had to disable because it no longer looked like) for “film” (more on the series. But this is certainly a matter of taste, and everyone must have seen the time to evaluate it themselves.

The case is very well made and sturdy. The remote is a bit strange, since the keys for loud, quiet and program forward and back are very far below that cross for the navigation but the very top. Also no hum or other noise coming from the housing. A fan, I could not tell.

The DLNA server is basically working very very well
, but he can not play MP4 files (though in general, DVB-T MP4 HD can encode TV). MP2 movies, MP3 music and jpeg photos but he plays without hesitation. I had certainly hoped for the MP4 format, but information about the possible formats from Sony, there is probably not (I have not found it). So loud my PS3 still needs to provide this service.

The DVB-T receiver is fine, my external DVB-S receiver (Technical) can do that but a lot better. A real alternative (with regard to the stability of the images) is the DVB-T receiver therefore not.

With these little things I could have live, but what Sony has done with the backlight, is in this price range out of order. Had the previous model (W4500) with 10bit panel have any problems with the corners and the illumination it appears to the W5500 (with 8bit panel here) clearly the biggest weakness: All 4 corners really shine brightly in the dark. On the day of the fall, although not at all, but at night and in dark scenes, it is (even my wife!) Noticed.

The black level in the middle is fine, on the sides, it becomes increasingly brighter, the illuminate corners clear. Already almost funny looks from (the center is lit up as of 4 spots). For this price class is an absolute no-go “. It is remarkable that the previously almost any other Sony model (not the 4,500 still had the KDL) 4000-series, according to tests and field reports. In many tests, I have now read subsequently, cut the new Sony KDL-W5500 will also perform worse than its predecessor. Perhaps the panel as Sony tries to save money on the wrong corners.

I personally find that very sad, I had on my LCD pleased and would also keep him happy. He has a very good picture indeed. But when it strikes even my wife, then I must look further for better or worse after the “perfect LCD” with no buzzing, no fan, with perfect image and operation. icon smile KDL LCD TV 40W5500 Review
