LG INFINIA 47LE8500 47-Inch 1080p 240 Hz Full LED HDTV with Internet Applications

47LE8500 Review By “Jessy Jerry”

lg led tv 47le8500 300x205 LG LED TV 47 inch 47LE8500 ReviewsI have this TV for about three weeks. Since the HD channels and the increased presence of multimedia files such as ripping HD Blu Ray (MKV), I wanted to send my old LCD to the bedroom and enjoy the superb quality picture that provided by the new televisions.

I began to inform my self about the different alternatives that exist today: LCD, LED and Plasma. After discovering that the LED is just a different backlight LCD evolved, I trusted no one and started researching what suited me, ignoring the many stupid things are said in the forums. This is what I found out and took in conclusion after nearly a year of study:

  • LCD: Good price. Mismanagement of the color black. Technology at the end of its shelf life. Superseded by the LED.
  • PLASMA: Overall picture quality and color on all LCD and LED. Better management of dark images. Lower price than the LED. Much greater power consumption. Use of polluting materials. Loss of image quality with use (burning effect). Few manufacturers are betting on the Plasma.
  • LED: Good picture quality and colorimetry. Better management of dark images than LCD but no better than the Plasma. Innovative technology which has a lot to improve but little by little equating Plasma. To equal that Plasma uses more technology, so its price is higher, but continuous reduction. Lower power consumption and use of less polluting materials. Greater range of choice of manufacturers.

So, I had the clear choice: LED. Maybe not the best image quality, but is the future and we must go for it. Greener and increasingly cheaper and higher quality. Once the election comes another: There are two types of LED backlights, LED Edge-or full-LED. This is a never ending story.

  • EDGE-LED: It has LEDs (small incandescent lamps) along the frame of the TV. Its biggest advantage is that panels are extremely thin. The major disadvantage is the appearance of the effect “Clouding” Having the light source at the edges, in the center of the screen image is degraded and darker. They also consume more electricity than Full-LED. Considered examples of this type of TV was the Samsung C8000 and Sharp 820.
  • FULL-LED: LEDs are evenly distributed on the back of the TV to provide lighting around the screen. If you have local dimming (Local Dimming) the device can turn off the LEDs in the areas where you need a darker image, giving a very pure black, like a Plasma and impossible to get an LCD. If you do not have the TV Local Dimming hardly get a better picture than any LCD.

I choose the first Full-LED because I thought the “experts” who say that (in theory) provides better image, and second because on reflection halos only happen in dark images, while clouding you have to suffer forever. What I know and I think is most important when choosing one or the other is if the clouding is so obvious and visible as halos, and this will leave it to the buyer’s choice.

After selecting the technology and the type of backlight going to the heart of the matter. “Why I chose the LE8500 despite its shortcomings?

I began to notice the LG LE8500 (For me 47 inch). I consider it the best choice of LEDs in high-end TVs without getting into 3D. Full-LED is also, what attracted me more and more the more studying LED technology. And if we add all of this takes some time to market, and is now at a great price I had no doubt and I decided to buy it.

The LE8500 features are in any web. I only emphasize that it is full-LED, 240Hz, with plenty of connections (HDMI, DLNA, USB, Ethernet …), possibility of acquiring a wireless device that costs about $30 – $40, Bluetooth compatible with MKV files.

It is very beautiful and elegant, all black, very thin and without frames. Mounting and easy setup. The handling is very complete and very pleasantly discover that it is possible to illuminate the keys when you press a button, which is extremely useful in my opinion. You can also manage the lights on or off the TV, thus reducing electricity consumption. The TV is set up using simple menus, First impressions can not be better.

SD QUALITY: Well, I have no complaints. Obviously being a high-definition TV are more noticeable bugs with my old LCD, but I think that this device handles well DTT television. Yes, the HD channels look very good.

VERTICAL BANDING: A lot of people anxious to see vertical bands, especially when watching football matches. In my TV did not see at any time any kind of vertical stripes, or dark images or football or anything. At least not as evident as horizontal bands.

PLAY MKV: I have a few weeks trying to play MKV files via USB, and when I point out that this TV is not compatible with all MKV files that you can download from the Internet. Some are read and others do not. I am still researching and forums asking what kind of files are compatible, and so far I have not clear. Seems to be incompatible with the DTS sound format, so it should be changed to AC3 with the mkvmerge program. But there is an incompatibility with some video format, which still do not know and I undertake to state here as soon as you know. He also stressed that still could not play tracks from MKV files subtitles. These are all problems that I read in forums before buying the LE8500 and I noticed once I had it in my hands.

SOUND: Not exactly bright or crisp. The regular sound of human voices with the newly unpacked TV, but I really think that setting it may be acceptable to watch TV or movies. Personally I put the mode enhancement of the human voice, otherwise hardly be perceived. If music be advised to purchase a home theater or a set of quality speakers.

Overall I definitely recommend this television. Provides great picture quality, manages and plays brilliantly movements very pure blacks. It supports most common formats of multimedia files, except some MKV, and its connectivity is superb. LG has taken great care of small details of your product, like a great remote control picture settings, power settings, multiple image formats, full menu and a beautiful aesthetic. For now the LE8500 is the best choice for those seeking a high quality TV and good price, and that currently are not interested in 3D.
