LG LK450 42 inch – HDTV Review
LG 42LK450 42-Inch 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV
Review By “Michael Hawkins”
After years with a 81 cm Panasonic tube TV (with which I was always very satisfied), I have now ordered this LG. As for what I am NOT a professional flat screens, or a LG fanboy, this review is entirely subjective and should be understood as such.
Packaging / Shipping:
Extremely fast, after 3 days the TV was there. Packaging appropriate to fit the parts inside the Styrofoam, everything is ok.
Accessories:
Manual (just a “beginner’s guide” in many languages), remote with new batteries, CD with complete instructions (PDF), power cord, screws, stand. What is NOT included is an HDMI or Scart cable.
Picture:
At first I was shocked by size of 107cm diagonal!
Since I had no HDMI cable for DVD player and Xbox both were connected via scart. The picture was modest. Above all, the font in the game menu was blurry, washed out the colors and unspectacular.
The Picture menu provides enough options to adjust the picture, it could improve the scart signal (480p), but not much. The WOW effect I had hoped It would not come.
However, nice that there is no ghosting in fast motion play and also no Clouding, black bars are really BLACK, everything ok.
Yesterday, I’ve bought a HDMI cable, and wow, that’s a different world! Wants to play scenes on a tropical island (Gears of War 3) look beautiful, the sharpness is there, There is still no ghosting, just a really impressive picture!
In the evening we looked over HDMI, on the DVD player to the film source code, many scenes looks really impressive (despite the fact that not even the BluRay was). In a close-up of actor you could see every pore and wrinkle impressive.
Sound:
I had not expected. The sound is tinny, treble sound like funneled through an aluminum can, basses are virtually non-existent.
Setting can be improved a lot but it not meet my need. So my next investment will be in a Receiver and 5.1 speakers.
Plus:
- Price / performance
- Really GREAT PICTURE!
- Not too heavy
Neutral:
- I personally bothers some that the headphone output is not the front but left on the side.
- Assembling a bit fiddly (foot must be bolted to the TV with 8 screws)
Negative:
- SOUND!
- There is no button to turn the TV off, you can put it just in standby.
Conclusion
I do not regret to have bought the LG 42LK450, only now I have to spend twice as much for receivers and speakers. But the picture is impressive, fast, colorful, white is white, black is black. Even with fast XBOX games you see no streaks, Good!
Although the TV “only” has 60Hz refresh rate all the games run smoothly, and so like on a tube TV.
I hope I could help!
