Sony KDL32EX720 Review and price comparison
Sony BRAVIA KDL32EX720 32-Inch 1080p 3D LED HDTV [Black]
Review By “Macker”
After my old TV was too small, I’ve recently been looking for a larger alternative.
Important to me was a good 3D function.
Personally I have never made bad experiences with Sony products and because this model has been offered up-to-date features and very inexpensive, I decided for the 32 inch version of the KDL32EX720.
The design is simply acting as expected, dignified.
If you start the TV it is passed through a wizard that makes it all the settings you need (language, tune analog, digital ,…). This takes ~ 5-10 minutes, depending on what you need and then you can start enjoying the great picture.
The built-in satellite receiver is obviously high quality and has an acceptable switching time between the channels. I’ve been feeding the TV with analog cable and high-definition video (720p and 1080p). The adjustment and the possibilities for image enhancement of the analog picture is great. On my old LCD, there was something only to a limited extent, for example, Sony offers Dynamic and noise reduction, black correction or color brilliance for a better picture. For HD material allows the TV to flex its muscles. The picture is very sharp, the colors are very strong (depending on settings) and lots of contrast.
The TV makes a very pretty picture as expected – not only for devices that are connected via HDMI.
The 3D mode works fine (tested with 3D Blu-ray’s (Tron Legacy + meatballs) and games for PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360) – so far I could find no criticism here.
The Sound quality is neat. I’m usually the simulated surround sound to hear, for my taste at best. It lacks the sound of bass, but hear very well. Again, there are again various settings to improve and adapt.
The menu system, I personally find very enjoyable because it inspired by the PlayStation 3 and PSP, but due to the many many functions there are of course many other points with the sub-points you have to scour. By pressing the “HOME” button to get a menu from here you can for example Choose between analog and digital, the area of media (photos, music, videos) to access, select the individual inputs or change the settings of the TV. Of course, this all directly on the remote control.
What I like very well the “i-Manual” function. So the TV has a built-in manual that explains all the functions with pictures and sketches. With the “Bookmarks” feature can save certain pages of instructions to access it again quickly, without having to search through the menus.
If the TV is via a LAN cable or wireless you can access to the video-on-demand services, video from the evening news and so on. Nice additional feature that unfortunately suffers under fairly long load times.
Since I unfortunately do not have plenty of USB stick, I tried the USB functionality with my 2.5 hard drive (Western Digital). That did not work, so you need really probably a USB stick or should a 3.5″ hard drive connected to it.
Conclusion
I have the TV since mid-June and I’m completely satisfied with the device. The picture is by the LED backlight just great – contrast, brilliant, sharp and yet of course. The extensive configuration options make this possible. Even with shows that are not transmitted in HD format, the image quality is comparatively good.
